Safety on the construction site is a must. Planned inspection actions in the coming months!

On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Constructiv East Flanders brought together professionals from the construction sector for the very first 'Taste of Safety' – an event focused on four crucial safety topics:
- The safe erection and use of scaffolding
- The importance of temporary collective fall protection
- Healthy handling of quartz dust
- Sanitary facilities on construction sites
The high attendance proved it: safety is a hot topic! Project managers, prevention advisors, and safety coordinators exchanged insights with about 30 companies. And of course, Heli – the reference in safe working at heights – was not to be missed!
Alarming figures for 'Safe working at heights'!
There is still much work to be done to ensure 'safe working at heights,' as demonstrated in the very interesting presentation by Tom Vermeersch and Yves De Groeve, both working at FOD WASO. These experts shared shocking facts: more than 50% of the detected site violations in 2024 were related to unsafe working at heights or a lack of safe access to heights. A large-scale inspection campaign on June 11, 2024, revealed that 49% of the violations specifically involved the risk of falling from heights:
- 24% due to defects in scaffolding structures: incomplete floors, missing railings, insufficient anchoring, …
- 25% due to the absence of collective protections, such as railings at floor edges, floor openings, and roof edges.
! Action Required! Scheduled Inspections!
The inspectors from FOD WASO have warned that compared to the previous year, little to nothing has changed. Therefore, they will be paying extra attention to these topics during the scheduled inspection actions in the coming months.
